The UK National Lottery, or the UK Lotto, is a bi-weekly (twice per week) lottery game.
The Lotto has no limit as to how many times you can play. You can either choose your numbers yourself, or select the ‘Lucky Dip’ option, which allows the computer to generate a random set of six numbers. Each time you play, it will cost you £1.00.
The UK Lotto draws are on a Wednesday and Saturday night. With one play slip, you can enter either
draw by marking the appropriate box on the play slip – ‘Both’, ‘Wed’ or ‘Sat’. Ticking the ‘both’ box
makes it easier for you to enter the same set of numbers for both draws, with just one play slip
On every play slip, you'll see a section called ‘No. of Weeks’ which lets you use the same set of numbers for up to eight weeks.
If six numbers on one of your printed UK Lotto selections match the six main numbers that are drawn - in any order - you are a jackpot winner. You also win a prize by matching five, four or even three out of the six. There will also be a seventh "bonus number" drawn. If you already have five matching numbers, look out for it. The bonus number gives you the chance to win the second highest prize.
| Estimated odds of winning a prize |
| Jackpot, Match 6 main numbers | 1 in 13,983,816 £2,000,000 |
| Match 5 main numbers + the bonus | 1 in 2,330,636 £100,000 |
| Match 5 main numbers | 1 in 55,492 £1,500 |
| Match 4 main numbers | 1 in 1,033 £60 |
| Match 3 main numbers | 1 in 57 £10 |
The best way to increasing your chances, without spending too much money, is to play in a syndicate.
Syndicates allow people to pool their lottery entries together, giving them a greater chance of sharing money from a lottery win. Camelot, operators of the UK National Lottery, say 1 in 4 jackpots are won by syndicates!
e-lottery allows you to play in a syndicate with a difference.
When playing the UK Lotto with e-lottery, you will be automatically placed into a syndicate of 49 members for both draws (Wednesday and Saturday) each week.
Each syndicate has 44 entries/lines into each UK Lotto draw, with each line sharing 5 common numbers plus one unique number between 1 and 49 (these unique numbers are the 44 remaining numbers after your syndicate has been given their 5 common numbers).
Playing in an e-lottery syndicate increases yours chances of winning a UK Lotto jackpot by 733%!
